Then Sings My Soul Saturday

Hello my dear blogging friends…I’m so glad you’re here visiting me in my tea cottage!  I have the kettle on, so let’s warm ourselves with a cup of hot tea and listen to some beautiful music that will warm our hearts as well.

I’m  very happy to be joining in today with our lovely hostess, Amy at http://signsmiraclesandwonders.blogspot.com/2008/03/then-sings-my-soul-saturdays-inaugural.html, for Then Sings My Soul Saturdays.   You can join in as well, or visit her and the other participants by clicking on the button to the right.

I’ve also just discovered Lisa’s blog at http://www.extravagantgrace.net/.  Lisa is hostessing “Bringing Holy Back to the Holidays”.  Doesn’t that sound like a really good idea?  Yes, I thought you would agree.  Please take a few minutes to read about her inspiration and desire to make this Christmas holiday about Christ, not shopping, gifts, going into debt, etc….those are fleeting, temporary material things…its not about that…its about HIM.   You can find out more by clicking on her button to the right.

This is a musical nativity sitting on the mantle in our family room, playing Oh, Holy Night.

This is my very, very, very favorite Christmas carol, and this rendition by Celine Dion is also my favorite.  I first heard her sing this song when hubby and I were taking our grandgirls out to see the Christmas lights on neighbors lawns.    I’ve heard it many times, before, but this time, as she began to sing,  I wanted to raise my hands in praise, and would have, but I was driving.  We all sang along…it was a night I’ll never forget.  You might notice that Celine includes the words “Christ is the Lord”…many artists leave that out…how sad that is.  I hope you enjoy it.

I do hope you enjoyed your visit here today…please come back again…with the cold weather coming upon us, its the perfect time for a perfect cup of tea with friends!

Please pray that the way we celebrate this Christmas season is pleasing to the Lord.  Pray for our military and their families, that He cover them with a shield of protection and bring them peace and comfort.    Pray for those that have lost a family member or friend to an illness…and pray for those that are battling disease.  Pray for your lost loved ones, that they might know Jesus and His love this Christmas, and pray for our nation,  that the Lord have mercy on us.

God bless,

Mary

  2. This is one of my favorite Christmas hymns, too. Brings on such an attitude of adoration. And of course Celine singing it is so good.

Thanks for prompting us to pray for those who are struggling through the season. Jesus is the answer for all of us.

  5. Mary,

This has ALWAYS ALWAYS been my favorite too. I also love the way she sings it. When I was putting it on my page I tried to get her version but something kept happening, so I gave up. I may have to try again now. Your memory of the song is wonderful. I remember singing this in the 8th grade choir. Our teacher worked and worked with us to get us to sing this in perfect harmony. It seemed as if it would never happen. But on the night of the performance, suddenly we did it. It was just beautiful and I remember tears in the eyes of some of the parents. It is just such a beautiful song and sums up what Christmas is all about. Have a wonderful week-end Mary,

    Blessings and hugs,

    Debbie

  7. Hi, Mary... I really enjoyed reading this, and O Holy Night is one of my favorite carols. Such a beautiful nativity you have there.

I can remember going with two of my professors to a country church where the husband pastored and playing Mary in their Christmas play. They had a man there who was a gospel singer and had cut albums. He sang "O Holy Night" acapella, and I have never been so blessed and so awed at the same time. Just amazing!

Sending you love and all good wishes for a wonderful weekend...

    XO,

    Sheila :-)

  16. O Holy Night is one of my most favorite christmas songs. It's great that Celine didn't omit lyrics that ought to be sung. My hyperactive 5-year old sat on my lap when I played this. It was wonderful!

P.S. Thanks for the advice you left on my TSMSS post. And if I may say so - I love your blog. Cottages have a special spot in my heart.
